i had so many contradicting moments of clarity on the road which is typical and i feel like on the outside i seem and we all seem unstable. i bleached my hair and my scalp is bloody and it might seem like i’m unraveling but i feel so good. all i want out of what i do is to make things i like and thats where it ends for me. the perception and the projections by other people onto me are separated from that ending. i came home with 100 ideas. i just want to make records forever and maybe write a book when i’m older. i also want to stop humoring the aggressive nature of all the superficial relationships popping up in my life. i resent all of it and i resent the assumption that i give a shit about certain bands or people or media outlets or~ just because i chose to be what i am. i have the best friends and most of them live on my block and the rest of them live far away.

‘hold on hope’ and ‘nobody sees me like you do’ kind of have the same melody and i don’t know why that makes me feel so pissed off and strangely protective of yoko ono but it does. just thinking about her a lot.

i’m playing in new york tonight. at 285 kent with sam(radiator hospital) joe (modern hut) and certain spiders from brooklyn. it’ll be ok, we’ll probably play all the songs we know except the paul simon cover.

keith and i are making another record. i love all the songs.

It’s an institution— people don’t surprise themselves anymore. We’re artists, so we should explore what it is to be a human. The most extreme or modern version of that is Genesis P-Orridge from Throbbing Gristle. She was a man, and then she turned into a woman. I wish I could do that, in a way: Have this total awareness… And potentially, people who come to see us play, they will receive a sound, they will receive a word, and something will happen. They will go back home and maybe they will look at their husbands differently, look at their family differently, friends, lovers, their job, what kind of music they listen to. Because nothing else is asking you to think about these things! Where are the things that make you reflect? And pop music is such a direct thing, it’s a great power, a great tool, a great medium.”

i made a great discovery today in realizing i can record songs on my phone and just text them to maryn. also played guitar for a very long time today because i love the way the reverb sounds on the little peavey amp at my house. anyway, here’s the result of those two things.

(ps i think you can hear austin chopping veggies in the background. hah.)
